You do not want to choose a color that is boring yet you do not want it to be too bold of a color.

Tips on Choosing Paint Color

  1. Honor the history of the home. If the home is older, you may want to use an accurate color scheme. The simpler the architecture is, the fewer colors you are going to need. Look up pictures on the internet to give you a better idea of what your likes and dislikes are.
  2. Making the house bold. If you are ready for a big change, going with more more modern colors is going to be the way to go. You should look around your neighborhood and see what others are choosing. You want your house to stick out but not too much.
  3. Always consider your neighbors. You do not want to paint your house the same exact color as your neighbors. You may live in a neighborhood where all houses are the same color. If you house is a different color, it will stand out. Just do not go too bold or you neighbors may not be very happy.
  4. Let nature help you decide your house color. If you live around a lot of trees, a palette of greens and browns would look great. If you live around a beach, you may want to go with light colors.   7. You may want the paint color to go with the scheme of the inside of the house. A lot of the things inside your home are going to have colors of things you like.
  8. You may want to go with more than one color, depending upon the size of your house. Paint moldings, shutters, and doors a different color than the rest of your house. You could also go with multiple colors. Too many different colors will overwhelm the house, so caution should be used.
  9. If you want your house to look larger, go with lighter colors. Darker colors will make your house look smaller in size.
  10. Darker colors may make your house look smaller in size, but it will also draw more attention to it. It you want your house to pop out, go with darker colors.
